TRACEY LYNN'S TRENDS

The other day I was interviewed by a Ganette publication to discuss trends and the tracey lynn golf clothing line.  (We will post the link with the interview once it’s up and running.)  Since that interview, I’ve been thinking about one of the questions that I was asked which was “where do you see things trending?”

After thinking about it more is seems like a very vague question… what would the terms be for trending to begin with?  I told her the golf industry is lagging behind in trends compared to the fashion industry.  After the interview I started asking myself, do the trends really change that much?

I went to New York last week to meet with my manufacturer and develop my new collections.  To keep me occupied, I have an assortment of magazines ranging from Inc. to Women’s Health to Bazaar and Vogue.  As I’m reading Bazaar, I try to notice the trends and what they outline as “what to wear.”  Here’s what I see- red, black, leopard and animal prints, combination of textures, neutrals and color blocks.  Oh yes, there’s bright blue and bright orange, safari and of course, pinks, greens and bright colors.  So really, what does that leave?  Houndstooth is BIG.  Nautical, palazzo’s and the baby-doll look are definitely out.  Fitted is in. But it seems everything is always in or always part of the trend.

When I answered her question I said “red, leopard and electric blue are huge colors this year.”  She indicated that the other people she had interviewed indicated that pastels are in.  Hmmm.  I start questioning whether I really know what the trend(s) are.  In the end, I keep coming to the same conclusion which is there will always be colors that are more popular during each season, but women generally gravitate toward colors they think look best on them, no matter whether they are “in” or “out”.  As for styles, we all know there are many trends that are best left behind.
